Fingerprint Verification
A Biometric is defined as a measurable physical characteristic that is unique to one individual.  The biometric with the most history and validity is the fingerprint.  Although many millions of fingerprints have been compared through the years, no two have proven to be identical. 

The key to fingerprint identification is to have a technology that recognizes the unique features of each individuals fingerprint.  The field of study that focuses on the unique biometric elements of the fingerprint is called Pattern Recognition.  It is through Pattern Recognition that an automated method of identifying individuals becomes possible.

With our system, the fingerprint image is not used to identify an individual. Instead, key features from the fingerprint image are identified and extracted by computer processing.  Mathematical relationships are then calculated by the computer and stored in a file referred to as the individuals’ template.  The fingerprint image is no longer required for system operation and can be discarded.  The fingerprint image cannot be reconstructed from information stored in the individuals’ template.

In order to identify an individual, the template is stored on the computer through  the enrollment process.  Next, when that individual presents the previously enrolled finger, the computer again extracts the key features, creates a template and compares this template to enrolled templates in the computer.  Once identified, the individual is granted rights based on their identity, not something they possess (keys, cards) or know (PIN, Password).  The result is significantly enhanced Convenience for the user and Security for the administrator.
